
Roles of Attachment in Play Therapy

This course will explore the importance of attachment by examining the history of attachment research and theory as well as recent research on brain development and attachment. Participants will leave with an understanding of the development of a secure attachment and various attachment disruptions. Participants will learn and explore ways to help children and their families work through these issues using play therapy and play therapy techniques.
Learning Objectives:
1.Explain the different styles of attachment as well as describe 2 or more behaviors or play themes that are common in the different styles of attachment.
2.Analyze 2 or more attachment styles and how they impact play therapy clients- observing the different forms of attachment, characteristics of the individual, and client support system.
3.Describe Attachment theory/styles and identify 3 or more play therapy techniques to enhance attachment for clients.
4.Describe and utilize Attachment assessments in working with play therapy clients and identify 3 or more ways it’s impact can be used in explaining them importance of secure attachment to parents, guardians, clients, and the community at large.
5.Compare 2 or more ways how play may look different for a child that with different attachment styles.
6.Demonstrate 3 or more play therapy techniques and applications to use with clients that have a background of insecure attachement.
7.Describe 2 or more theoretical approaches that can be utilized in the treatment of adjustment disorder through play therapy.
8.Demonstrate 2 or more play therapy techniques and applications to use with clients that have experienced adoption.
9.Demonstrate 2 or more play therapy techniques and applications to use with clients who have experienced foster care.
Friday Schedule:
Training 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM (15 minute breaks at 2:45 PM and 7 PM, 30 minute break at 4:45 PM)
Saturday Schedule:
Training 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM (15 minute breaks at 10:30 AM and 3:30PM, 1 hour break at 12:30 PM)
*Must be present the whole training, no partial credit given. Cancellations received at least
5 days prior to schedule training are refundable less a $35 administration fee.
Cancellations within 5 days prior to scheduled training or missed trainings (no shows) will
not be given a refund. Play therapy credit may not be awarded to
non-mental health professionals.”
